Winner of All India Open Chess Championship at Karaikudi, Kerala State Senior Rapid Chess Championship, the Calicut University Chess Championship and lead the university chess team.

Last year he participated in Junior World Championship, and in the Asian Junior Championship he was placed third.

In team events, we are the university champions in chess, and in the A-Zone competitions we are the runner-up in cricket and the finalist in football. Our football team did credit to the college by winning the Abraham Kadukanmackal memorial ever rolling trophy. Our sportsmen who distinguished themselves in individual items at the university level this year are (i) Vignesh Kumar D. who won second places in weight lifting (77 kg), power lifting (67 kg), and body building (70 kg), Ayyappan D. who secured the second place in power lifting (90 kg), Sampath Kumar P.S. who won the first prize in weight lifting (105 kg), Jubesh Sebastian who won second place in decathlon, and Vivek P. who won third place in discus throw.

At the state-level competitions, Vignesh Kumar came out second in weight lifting (69 kg).

At the district level, Ayyappan D. won the first place in power lifting (82.5 kg) and the second position in bodybuilding, Sampath Kumar P.C. won first places in discus throw, hammer throw and shot put.

In the Annual Sports Meet conducted on 21 January 2003, Nizar P. won the individual championship.

Considering his winning performance at the university and state-level competitions, Vignesh Kumar D. was selected for the prestigious award instituted by this College in memory of Mr. Jimmy George, our former student and Arjuna Award winner.
