Membership
of the PTA is compulsory to all the parents of the students
of the college. The PTA executive is regularly met for the
planning and implementation of all matters pertaining to the
physical, mental and moral welfare of the students.
The PTA of this college is a powerful body with a great vision.
Its orientation is clear from its programmes of which the
most important ones are:
A series
of seminars on "Relational Psychology of Parents"
by Rev. Dr Vincent Alappatt for parents of the undergraduate
students were conducted on 7th and 13th August and 2nd September
2002. These sessions in the morning were followed by afternoon
sessions on "Relational Psychology of Students",
meant for the undergraduate students. These seminars provided
an opportunity for an interaction between the parents and
the teachers and; a discussion and evaluation of the performance
of their wards.
Two terminal
examinations were conducted and the mark lists were promptly
sent to the parents concerned. One of the greatest services
rendered by the PTA is the running of a students'Counselling
Center, where Dr Basheerkutty, Clinical Psychologist, Medical
College, Thiruvananthapuram and Rev.Dr Vincent Alappatt are
made available for Counselling.
The counselors
conducted classes for undergraduate students for about a couple
of weeks and six hundred students attended the sessions and
115 students availed of personal counselling. Mr T L Jose
of Department of Physics deserves special mention for co-ordinating
the activities of the counselling center.
Another
laudable activity of the PTA is collecting a Students Welfare
Fund from among the teachers for assisting the needy. Mr C
M Philip of the department of English is the co-ordinator
of this fund. This year an amount of Rs 11,250 was collected
for distribution among 15 poor students.
As a gesture
of concern and goodwill, an adhoc collection of Rs. 16,185
from the staff and students and the amount was donated for
the medical treatment of Kum Sumi Syed Alavi.
